Minnesota Vikings 7 Round NFL Mock Draft | February Edition

This months full 7 round Vikings NFL Mock Draft is brought to you by the Lupagus. Taking each of the Vikings needs and wants and compiling a full 7 round projection. Other than filling the Vikings biggest offensive need quarterback, a guard and taking a flier on a 6th round running back you’ll see Lupagus stays pretty heavy on the defensive side of the ball.

Previous Viking 7 Round NFL Mock Drafts | January |

teddy-1

Round 1. Teddy Bridgewater QB, Louisville
Of the top 3 quarterbacks in the Draft Bridgewater is the one whose seems the most likely to fall to the Vikings at this point.  He’s got good size, a strong arm, can move a bit, and is accurate with the ball.  He’d be a great fit for the Vikings, assuming he gets by the Texans, Jags, Browns, and Raiders.

Risk Level: Low

shaz

Round 2. Ryan Shazier OLB, Ohio St.
Shazier is a hard guy to predict at this point in the draftseason as some mocks have him going in the teens while others have him somewhere in the second round.  The Vikings have a huge need at outside linebacker and could use a playmaker to pair with Chad Greenway on the other side.  Shazier is a three down backer who has good size, the speed to cover receivers, and great natural instincts.  The Combine should give us a better idea of when he may come off the board.

Risk Level: Low

chris-borland

Round 3. Chris Borland ILB, Wisconsin
Borland isn’t going to wow anyone with this size, speed, or athletic ability.  What he is, is a football player.  The Vikings could use a guy like this in the middle of their defense.  Erin Henderson didn’t pan out, and Audie Cole showed some potential, but is best suited for a backup role.  Borland is a solid tackler, diagnoses plays quickly, and flies to the ball.  He got the attention of every scout with his performance at the Senior Bowl, hopefully for the Vikings his tangibles keep him available at this point in the Draft.

Risk Level: Moderate

cyril-rich

Round 3. Cyril Richardson G, Baylor
The Vikings offensive line struggled as a whole in 2013, but the play of the guards may have been the most disappointing.  Charlie Johnson will be gone in free agency and that opens a big hole at left guard.  Enter Cyril Richardson and his nearly 6’5 350 lb. frame.  Richardson could slide a bit on Draft Day if he can’t make up the stock he hurt during his time in Mobile.  It was reported that Richardson looked sluggish and didn’t display much power, and was routinely beaten. He will need a solid Combine to turn his stock, but this kid is loaded with potential and would be a great choice here for the Vikings in round 3.

Risk Level: Low

aaron-lynch

Round 4. Aaron Lynch DE, South Florida
With Jared Allen and Everson Griffen both likely gone in free agency, defensive end becomes a big need for the Vikings.  Lynch is a bit of an enigma having the size, speed, and ability to be a pass rushing menace but just wasn’t productive for South Florida last season.  He’ll be a bit of a project, but if Coach Zimmer can motivate him and unleash his potential, the Vikings will have a huge steal on their hands here.

Risk Level: Moderate

aron-colvin

Round 5. Aaron Colivn CB, Oklahoma
The Vikings have a need at corner with Chris Cook hopefully gone, and just poor depth behind Xavier Rhodes. Colvin was a second round talent before blowing an ACL at the Senior Bowl. When healthy, Colvin is a vocal leader on the field who has good ball skills and can help out in the run game.  Taking him here would basically give him a redshirt season to recover, and the Vikings could start reaping his benefits in the 2015 season.

Risk Level: High

dri-archer

Round 6. Dri Archer RB, Kent St.
The Vikings could use another running back with Toby Gerhart’s future with the team in doubt.  Archer is small but extremely quick, can take any hand off to the house, and is a big time asset in the passing game.  He’d give the team a true third down back, and his drastic style from AP would really keep defenses off balance.

Risk Level: Low

booboo

Round 7. Boo Boo Gates S, Bowling Green
Honestly, I put this guy here mostly because his name is Boo Boo.  But the team does need another safety and Gates does have talent.  He has good size, can lay some big hits, and showed decent ball skills with 7 career interceptions.  For a seventh rounder, the Vikings could do much worse.

Risk Level: Moderate

  1. This would be fricken incredible if this happened but literally every guy on here is expected (as of now) to be gone before you have him being drafted here.

  2. The first 2 rounds were fantastic, but trying to bring Borland and his short arms into the mix would be a reach and a redundant pick. The Vikes should go after either Baptiste, Desir or McGill with their first 3rd rounder. And, they need to get Cyril Richardson later in the draft because of his horrible showing at the Senior bowl, and go after a safety or defensive tackle and if not available, either BPA or trade up or down to get the player they want(I understand that it’s still early and a lot of things are going to happen before then).
